Fitness Challenge Starting April 2015

So in order to help myself get into shape and to try to cross off number 56 of my Life List, I have decided to take on a 30 day fitness challenge for the month of April. While looking for workout videos or challenges and exercises that I could do in the comfort of my own home, I rediscovered Blogilates by Cassey Ho.  I purchased a few items from her fitness line, for a friend about a year ago, but wasn’t really in the mindset to exercise myself. Cassey is an energetic and motivating fitness instructor. She encourages you to exercise at your pace, but also pushes you to dig deeper.

In preparation for the challenge, I have registered for her newsletter and am waiting for her to release April’s challenge. I am now physically and mentally ready to dedicate a portion of my life to my health and well-being. Although I will not be following any strict meal plans or cutting anything out, I plan to lose weight and achieve my happy body weight by adapting to a healthier and livelier lifestyle.

Trust me I have tried to lose weight in the past, but it was mostly by eating less than I should be eating or exercising vigorously, a formula that leads to short term success and long term failure. In the past, I used to use the ever popular My Fitness Pal website to track my meals, snacks and exercises. I often would reach my recommended caloric intake by the time lunch hit. Everyday that I just met or was slightly under my calories, I would feel dizzy and hungry. Don’t get me wrong, I lost some weight and quite rapidly, but I never felt full or alert and was living off vegetables, fruits and salads with a hint of carbs. Instead of sacrificing my health to lose weight, I have now learned and begun to eat in moderation instead of driving myself crazy over numbers I see on a scale.

I even tried to do Jillian Michaels: 30 Day Shred because I had heard great things about the program and had seen some pretty amazing results. I found it online and began the workout, I got to Level 2 out of the three levels. I was on about day 12 when I realized that It was way too intense for me, it caused my knees to get sore and my shoulders to ache for days. Looking back, I think I was just weak and didn’t have the right mindset to take on such a strenuous program. That being said, working out combined with my calorie meal tracking enabled me to lose weight. However, as soon as I stopped I gained it all back. It was extremely frustrating and discouraging. So I am going into next month with head held up high and with positive attitude.

In fact, the fitness journey that I am about to embark in will be based on how my clothes fit and how I feel, without the pressures of seeing a number on the scale. I used to depend on the scale and would get upset when I had gained weight. Since my weight would fluctuate four to five pounds depending on the time of the day it was not a reliable means of determining whether I had truly lost any weight and so I am leaving it behind.

I am excited to be able to share my experiences and my successes and failures, as I am sure there will be a lot of those. What matters the most is the ability to keep myself motivated, accountable and determined to complete the challenge and any future challenges.

I will be using My Fitness Pal to read other people’s success stories and as a means of keeping myself motivated and reaching my happy weight. To get a head start, I am easing into the fitness mentality and healthy living by doing a few of Cassey’s workout videos each day. I eventually want to try Pilates or Yoga as well, so we will see how it goes.

What have been your secrets to achieving a healthier body and lifestyle?

What has worked for you and what hasn’t?

Do you recommend any programs or challenges?

If anyone wants to join me, just let me know!

Stay strong and beautiful!

    • Thank you so much for your comment and kind words. Cassey is definitely motivating so I hope I can push through. Do you find that you intake enough calories on MFP because I used their recommended amount and was still hungry.

      • Hmm my goal is just to maintain my weight at the moment so maybe my amount is not that low. Maybe you can change the goal weight? Plus, you should enter your pilates work out and that should give you extra calories for the day too. It looks like you are gonna work out everyday, so you are going to need more calories I think?
