Keep on Going

When everyone around you seems to be flying past you in this game of Life, take a step back and evaluate your decisions and choices that have lead you to where you are.

How easy is it to feel alone and overflowing with jealousy when you login to social media to see all your classmates, peers, friends and family moving forward in life…i.e.) engaged, married, pregnant, new parents, etc.

When you see such pictures and status updates of them living perfect lives you have to remember that people want often want to share only the best moments of their lives. It doesn’t help you to take it personally or get jealous or compare yourself to others and to what they have or do not have.

This does nothing to benefit your life; instead be happy for them and use any emotions to fuel your motivation. What we see on social media is literally just snapshots of a person’s life/day. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors or when the camera is off.

Throughout my life this has always guided me to be down to earth, humble and thankful…

“Someone will always be smarter. Their house will be bigger. They will drive a better car. Their children will do better in school. And their partners will fix more things around the house. So let it go and love you and your circumstances. Think about it. The prettiest woman in the world can have hell in her heart. And the most highly favored woman on your job may be unable to have children. The richest woman you know she has the car, the house, the clothes might be heartbreakingly lonely. So, love you. Love who you are right now. Tell yourself, I am too blessed to be stressed.”

Always stay true
And keep on doing you
Remember to follow through
And do what you’ve got to do
Envision where you want to be
So you can be financially free
Don’t give up even when it seems impossible
Just have faith and be unstoppable
Success will come when you work hard
Just focus and recondition your mind.

Stay strong and beautiful!

  1. Such a great reminder. There are days when I get so bogged down with updates from highschool friends (What, she’s a senior at Deloitte now?? She’s one year away from being a Psychiatrist?? Me, just staying at home fostering a dog??) that I just want to go back to bed and try again tomorrow.

But you’re right, they don’t talk of their struggles, of how many times /they/ want to go back to bed and try again tomorrow. It would be such a neat and empowering social media movement if we were all to post a few bad/unhappy things once in awhile.

  2. So true! Thanks for sharing. On my way home last night, on the radio someone quote Tom Petty from an interview about social media. They had asked him if he went on social media and he said, “No! I have a life. I don’t need to invent one.” 🙂
